Overview
At Farrer Park Primary School, our ALP aims to instil a greater awareness in our students of the environmental challenges that the world is facing today and provide them with opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills to overcome some of these real-world problems. Anchored on the theme of sustainability, Caring for the Community through Interdisciplinary Learning @ Farrer Park Primary School (C2IL@Farrer Park) is designed to enable students develop a deeper and better understanding of environmental challenges and the importance of sustainable practices through activities like interdisciplinary project work, enrichment programmes and learning journeys. Students become more engaged and informed citizens who are equipped with the knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on the world.
C2IL@Farrer Park aims to enable students to:
• understand how knowledge from different disciplines can be integrated and applied to make the lives of others better,
• apply inter-disciplinary knowledge to design solutions to improve the lives of others and
• develop 21st Century Competencies, interests and dispositions which will help them better serve the community in the future.
Our framework is based on the four domains, namely Curriculum, Campus, Culture and Community (4Cs) as follows:
Methodology
The school uses design thinking that involves a human-centered problem-solving approach to foster in our students the value of empathy and resilience. Students learn to be innovative and design creative solutions to real-world problems which demonstrates care to the community.
Design
The diagram illustrates the programme levels and outcomes and their corresponding academic levels. To leverage the school’s strengths in environmental education, the learning experiences are mainly anchored in the subject domain of Science and environment education. English language and ICT are also included to explore different knowledge bases and draw connections between them.
